Dribble It On

A 11 track beats & breaks album (59m 5s) — released September 3rd 2001 on PORK RECORDINGS

Robert Ellerby and Remko Schouten came together as Momma Gravy at the end of last year's summer. This followed their guest appearances on bass and keyboards for former Pavement drummer Steve West's Marble Valley. At the end of the UK tour Rob and Remko adjourned to the Dutchman's Amsterdam studio. First fruits of the collaboration was the 'Champagne at 6 Def EP ' released earlier this year on Pork. Now they bring us their debut album, completed over the Christmas and New Year period. Rob is one half of the Bullitnuts who have already released three albums on Pork and remixed the likes of Richard Dorfmeister's Tosca, Natasha Atlas and Blue States. Remko has been Pavement's live sound engineer for the last seven years: radically differing backgrounds but when they get together these crazy fuckers gel like putty and glass. Press Reviews in The Guardian (already published), Muzik, Mixmag, Jockey Slut, 7, Wax: feature in Pulse section of Jockey Slut Radio Plays by John Peel, Paul Thomas, Gilles Peterson (all BBC Radio One) Stop Press Rob is now also playing bass for Hull's Salako (Jeepster Records) 'Lay it on thick, 'cos pork has never tasted so good?: Mixmag 'Weird, analogue funky gear that hits the spot?: 7 'Top quality laidback beats that defy any neat categorisation? - DJ'

Fresh Pork act Momma Gravy release their debut album, a collaboration between one half of Bullitnuts and former Pavement engineer Remko Schouten from Holland, and yes, the obvious Dutch connection is much in evidence. I don't indulge, but frankly, who needs to when you can have these fruits of 'labour'. Mixmaster Morris once spoke of having a T-shirt made with 'Fuck Ibiza I'm Off To Mars', so fuck Ibiza, I'm off to Hull. Hallelujah it's raining Pork. - Steve Nicholls Wax

"Dribble It On" is pure "Old Codes" - era Fila with added exotic guitars, or the KLF's "Chill Out" as reconstructed by the Bullitnuts. It's Baby Mammoth's sweet guitar licks with Tosca's dubby basslines, Fug's alluring acoustics and Atjazz's soaring synths. But above all else, it's classic Pork material - not bad for a long-awaited debut. - Matt Anniss IDJ
